Why PopAlert Runs on Your Own Network, Not the Cloud

Many emergency notification tools are cloud services: alerts travel out to the internet and back again, or rely on mobile networks and apps. That works most of the time. But emergencies are exactly when connections are congested, phones are in bags, and you can least afford a delay.

PopAlert takes a different approach. Alerts are delivered by a control unit installed in your building, over your own local network.

How PopAlert Is Set Up

  • A PopAlert control unit is installed on site by our engineers and connected to your local network. It is the central point that coordinates how alerts are triggered and delivered.
  • A lightweight PopAlert client runs quietly in the background on each connected computer, ready to display an alert instantly. Users don’t need to open anything.
  • Alerts travel directly across your internal network from the control unit to every client, typically within seconds.

No Internet Needed to Deliver Alerts

Because alerts never leave your building, PopAlert does not need internet access to deliver an alert. If your internet connection drops or slows to a crawl, alerts still go out. The only outbound connection PopAlert needs is a controlled one for licence validation.

Your Data Stays on Site

PopAlert stores system data, such as user accounts and alert logs, on the control unit within your own network. Nothing about your incidents is sent to a third-party cloud.

What Your IT Team Will Want to Know

  • Clients: Windows computers are the primary supported clients.
  • Server environment: compatible environments include Windows Server or Linux-based systems.
  • Bandwidth: minimal. PopAlert sends lightweight internal command messages only.
  • VLANs: supported, as long as routing rules allow communication between subnets.
  • Wi-Fi: supported, although wired connections are recommended for critical endpoints.
  • Scale: device numbers scale with server specification and network design, and multiple buildings can be managed from one dashboard with zone control.

Reliable When It Matters

Keeping everything on site means fewer things that can fail between pressing the button and the message appearing on screen. That is the core of PopAlert’s design: speed, clarity and reliability, without depending on services outside your control.
